There are a number of benefits to volunteering with IABC Edmonton, ranging from career and skills development to networking opportunities and having fun.
Some of the reasons you might consider getting involved include:
- Professional experience/skills development
The opportunity to gain experience is one of the primary reasons for getting involved as a volunteer. Whether you wish to contribute established skills or gain experience in those areas you may have limited exposure to in your current job, volunteering is a great way to gain experience – and looks great on a resume. - Networking
What greater way to connect with other communications professionals in our business community? Volunteering on a committee or at an event is a great way to build relationships and expand your business network. - Career development
There’s no denying that volunteering looks great on a resume. And expanding your skill set, as well as your professional network can have long-term benefits on your career growth and development. - Leadership development/board succession
Interested in being on the IABC Edmonton board some day? Volunteering is often the first step towards moving into a role on the IABC Edmonton board. If this is something you might be interested in, talk any member of the IABC Edmonton executive, who can provide more information as well as look out for opportunities for you to take on a leadership role. - Access to events
Volunteering at an event is a great way to get access to our great line-up of professional development sessions and special events throughout the season. - Community involvement
Volunteering is a great way to get more involved in your business community, providing the opportunity for you to directly impact the Edmonton and area communications industry. - Employer reference letters
If requested, the Volunteer Services director will send your employer a letter of recommendation, or write you a general letter of reference based on your volunteer work with IABC Edmonton. - Introduction to IABC
Not yet a member? If you’re considering becoming an IABC member, volunteering can be a great way to learn more about us. We welcome non-IABC members as volunteers for up to six months. - Fun!
