Open Positions

Vice President

Term length: One year from July 1 to June 30

The Vice President automatically succeeds to the President after one year.

Prerequisite: Served at least one year on the IABC Edmonton Board of Directors (does not have to be in the preceding term).

  • Attends regular and special meetings.
  • Supports the President in providing leadership and oversight over the affairs of the chapter.
  • Assists in training and onboarding of new Board members.
  • Supports the Board of Directors to establish annual strategic plans and budget.
  • Serves as an authorized bank-signing officer.
  • Represents IABC Edmonton in regional IABC affairs, including IABC Canada West Region (CWR). This includes attending IABC CWR meetings, submitting status reports as needed and building relationships with other regional chapters.
  • Creates and coordinates opportunities for leadership development of IABC Edmonton board members. This can include attendance at Dare to Lead, World Conference and more.
  • Serves on and chairs the Nominating Committee, which is responsible for determining the positions required on the Board of Directors, ensuring the position descriptions represent the needs of the chapter, and recruiting board members to fill vacant positions on the Board of Directors.
  • Reviews the chapter’s Bylaws to ensure they reflect the needs of the chapter and Board of Directors.
  • Undertakes special projects as requested.
  • Acts in the absence of the President.
  • Maintains a record of activities in the position and saves related information on the Board of Directors’ shared Google Drive.
  • Supports the training of their successor.
Senior Director of Finance

Term length: Two years from July 1 to June 30

  • Attends regular and special meetings.
  • Develops the annual portfolio plan and budget.
  • Oversees the chapter’s financial affairs, consistent with the bylaws and directions of the Board of Directors and general membership.
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly financial reports for the Board of Directors.
  • Arranges for annual audited financial statements.
  • Serves as the primary contact for the chapter’s accountant.
  • Supports the Board of Directors to establish the annual budget.
  • Coordinates the sharing of the approved budget with chapter members within 30 days of approval by the Board of Directors.
  • Maintains the chapter’s bank account(s) and other financial tools such as Paypal and Square.
  • Serves as an authorized bank-signing officer.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records of all financial transactions.
  • Processes authorized expense reimbursement for members of the Board of Directors, as needed, within 30 days of claim.
  • Ensures the annual reporting and renewal of society status as required by provincial legislation.
  • Performs other duties as may be required.
  • Ensures financial content on the IABC Edmonton website is current.
  • Maintains a record of activities in the position and saves related information on the Board of Directors’ shared Google Drive.
  • Supports the training of their successor.
Senior Director of Programming

Term length: Two years from July 1 to June 30

  • Attends regular and special meetings.
  • Exercises general supervision over the Programming portfolio.
  • Develops the annual Programming plan, in coordination with team members.
  • Oversees and coordinates networking events, professional development opportunities and the annual Capital Awards event for IABC Edmonton chapter members.
  • Performs other duties as may be required.
  • Ensures programming content on the IABC Edmonton website is current.
  • Maintains a record of activities in the position and saves related information on the Board of Directors’ shared Google Drive.
  • Supports the training of their successor.
Director of Capital Awards

Term length: Two years from July 1 to June 30

Reports to: Senior Director of Programming

  • Attends regular and special meetings.
  • Plans, coordinates and executes the annual Capital Awards event for chapter members. Actions include coordinating with vendors, setting up ticket sales, liaising with special guests, post-event evaluation and more.
  • Oversees and coordinates Capital Awards for IABC Edmonton chapter members.
  • Oversees and coordinates the annual Capital Awards program, including submission and scoring processes and systems, judge recruitment and promotions.
  • Works with the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications to ensure Capital Awards event and program are adequately promoted.
  • Contributes to the development of the annual Programming plan.
  • Performs other duties as may be required.
  • Ensures Capital Awards content on the IABC Edmonton website is current.
  • Maintains a record of activities in the position and saves related information on the Board of Directors’ shared Google Drive.
  • Supports the training of their successor.
Director of Events

Term length: Two years from July 1 to June 30

Reports to: Senior Director of Programming

  • Attends regular and special meetings.
  • Plans, coordinates and executes events for chapter members, such as mixers and other networking events. Actions include coordinating with vendors, setting up ticket sales, liaising with special guests, post-event evaluation and more.
  • Contributes to the development of the annual Programming plan.
  • Works with the Marketing & Communications team to promote events.
  • Performs other duties as may be required.
  • Ensures event content on the IABC Edmonton website is current.
  • Maintains a record of activities in the position and saves related information on the Board of Directors’ shared Google Drive.
  • Supports the training of their successor.
Director of Partnerships

Term length: Two years from July 1 to June 30

Reports to: Senior Director of Membership & Volunteers

  • Attends regular and special meetings.
  • Liaises with current and potential sponsors and partners.
  • Seeks out cash and in-kind sponsors for various chapter initiatives and events.
  • Develops a mutually-beneficial sponsorship recognition program that provides IABC Edmonton and sponsors and partners value.
  • Works with other directors to ensure sponsors and partners receive appropriate recognition for their support.
  • Contributes to the development of the annual Memberships & Volunteers plan.
  • Performs other duties as may be required.
  • Ensures sponsorship and partnership content on the IABC Edmonton website is current.
  • Maintains a record of activities in the position and saves related information on the Board of Directors’ shared Google Drive.
  • Supports the training of their successor.
Student Liaison

Term length: Two years from July 1 to June 30

Reports to: Senior Director of Membership & Volunteers

  • Attends regular and special meetings.
  • Liaises with educational institutions to promote IABC Edmonton.
  • Plans, coordinates and executes student-focussed events.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for current or potential student members.
  • Contributes to the development of the annual Memberships & Volunteers plan.
  • Performs other duties as may be required.
  • Ensures student-focused content on the IABC Edmonton website is current.
  • Maintains a record of activities in the position and saves related information on the Board of Directors’ shared Google Drive.
  • Supports the training of their successor.
