Update from the President

| February 17, 2017

We’re a month and a half into the new year and time is flying! It must be because we’re having so much fun planning some engaging networking and professional development events for you over the next few months.

AngelaCapital Awards is also just around the corner, so mark your calendars for Thursday, May 25, at the Blatchford Hanger in Fort Edmonton Park. I sincerely hope to see you there — it’s always a pleasure to celebrate the successes of our fellow communicators and see some exceptional work happening here in our city!

About this time last month, our entire Board of Directors came together for a mid-year review. We chatted about how we measured up against our action plans, what was working well, ideas for improvement and took some time to get to know one another. The biggest take-away for me was that we have A LOT going on and that our team is fundamentally focused on creating the best experiences for our members. I hope you’ll take advantage of what’s to come over the next few months. Here’s a couple of suggestions:

  1. Nominate a local communicator who you think is excelling at their craft for our most coveted awards: Inspired Communicator of the Year, Inspired Leader of the Year and Member of the Year. Nominations are open from Feb. 28 to April 7.
  2. Tell us what you think! We want to hear what you have to say and encourage you to take 10 minutes to complete our chapter survey. All participants who chose to leave their name will be entered to win two tickets to the Capital Awards Gala.
  3. Consider furthering your career by earning your Communication Management Professional (CMP) certification. March 7 is the application due date for writing the exam at our planned session on April 22, so start thinking now about whether this opportunity is right for you.

I’ll also point out that our volunteer team has really #nailedit so far this year! Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn to stay in the know about what’s happening at IABC Edmonton. Here’s hoping I’ll see you online or at one of our events from now until July when our new board takes the helm under our incoming president, Maya Filipovic.

Have a great week!
