Food, beer and communicators: the perfect mix for a welcome-back mixer!

When you combine 1,000 wings and 70+ people at 5 p.m. on a weekday, there aren’t likely to be any leftovers, but there sure are going to be a lot of happy people.

IABC’s Welcome Back Mixer at Underground Tap and Grill, sponsored by the University of Alberta’s Master of Arts in Communications and Technology program, was a huge success. With 72 beers on tap, IABC members had everything from Fruli to Guinness to wash down the crowd favourite of the night, the pulled pork nachos.

Everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming, board members and IABC members alike, and this only reminds us of how excellent the communication industry in Edmonton is. From students to seasoned professionals, IABC members chatted and laughed, telling their stories and even sharing a good tip or two.

Underground was a great venue with delicious food (if you’re ever there for lunch, try the green onion cake pulled pork sandwich), and they were kind enough to donate door prizes as well. Congrats to Alex Boyd and William Thorsen, who each took home a bottle of rosé champagne!

Missed this event? Don’t fret! Check out the IABC Edmonton website for upcoming events.

Thanks to JGR Communications for donating the wings, Aminah Syed for taking photos, Eileen Crookes for representing the MACT program (application deadline is December 1st), and of course Underground for the food and space!
