Happy new year, IABC Edmonton!
For many of us, the start of a new year gives us the opportunity to set intentions for the year ahead. If your career is a focus for you, I want to highlight a few areas that IABC can help you achieve your goals.
Get certified. Pursuing certification allows you to demonstrate your knowledge and expertise in the field. We’ll be hosting two exams in Edmonton in the first half of the year -- February 23 and May 24. Learn more about certification and what you need to do to prepare on the Global Communication Certification Council website or get in touch with our local Certification Director, Michelle Spring.
Get recognized. I’m certain you’ve done some great work in the past year that deserves recognition. IABC Edmonton’s award winning Capital Awards program will begin accepting submissions at the end of February. Take some time to think about what you could submit.
Get involved. We belong to an awesome community of professionals and one of the best ways to connect with it is by volunteering. There are always opportunities to connect and give back, from one-time to long-term positions. If you’re interested in getting more involved, check out the volunteering section of our website or reach out to our Senior Director of Volunteering, Rachelle Tedder.
We’ll also soon be recruiting for our 2019-2020 board year (the term begins July 1). If you’re looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity that gives you the chance to work with a bright and engaged group of people, think about applying. You’ll learn more about these opportunities in the coming months. In the meantime, you can find out more about our current Board and positions here.
Those are just a few highlights of the many things we have in store for the first half of the year. I hope to see many of you at the events we’ll have. As always, please take the opportunity to reach out to me or any of our board members if you have any questions about your membership, IABC Edmonton or IABC overall.
Wishing you all the best in 2019!
