A Guide to Building Culture Through Leadership Communications
In response to a number of serious safety incidents, Suncor recognized the need for a cultural change at its oil sands operations and the role both leadership and communications plays in making that shift.
In this breakfast session, Shauna Lowry, Gold Quill and Silver Leaf award winner, and past IABC Calgary President, will help you to understand the lessons learned and best practices from an incident response perspective, you will see how enabling leaders to be better communicators has the largest impact on cultural change, and, you will get some helpful tools and templates you can take with you and apply to your own organization.

A seasoned professional, Shauna has a diverse communications background with generalist and leadership roles spanning many industries. Over the course of her career, she has led both internal and external communications, built a corporate communications department from scratch, initiated stakeholder relations programs and managed complex issues including reclamation projects, large-scale financial restructurings and safety communications.
Shauna’s contributions to the Communications profession include serving as president of the International Association of Business Communicators’ (IABC) Calgary chapter and serving as chair of the IABC Canada West Region. Shauna has been a guest speaker at chapter events and instructed a Writing for the Web course through SAIT’s continuing education faculty.
